Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado has returned after months in exile, BBC News reported on Sunday 25 October, noting that Machado had left the country just a month before the US government seized Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Euronews reported that the opposition leader, back after nearly 10 months in exile, was last in Venezuela in December 2025, leaving then to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo, and that much of Machado's political activity has since been carried out from the United States and Panama. The Guardian reported that Machado announced the return on X on Sunday lunchtime, writing 'I'm here. With you', and that the return is unlikely to please interim president Delcy Rodríguez, while the Financial Times said the Nobel laureate's arrival poses a challenge to the country's Trump-backed interim government and The Independent that Machado's attempts to re-enter the country have tested relations with the Trump administration.
